What is the Express Entry?
The Express Entry Program is the fastest and most efficient route to gain permanent residence in Canada. It allows skilled individuals who meet the required eligibility requirements to immigrate to Canada with ease. Three different programs are provided under the express entry category which is: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class. A candidate can choose any of these programs to immigrate to Canada and settle there as a permanent resident.
What is a visitor visa?
You need to fulfil some of the necessary requirements in order to apply for a visitor visa, which are:

  • You need to be completely healthy.
  • Owning a valid passport is a must.
  • You must have proof of assets, familial or monetary ties in your country for motivating you to return.
  • There must not be any criminal cases or issues with immigration.
  • You need to be financially capable of funding your stay in Canada.
  • Lastly, you must prove that you will return to your home nation at the end of your visit.
How long does a visitor visa allow you to stay in Canada?
A visitor visa is generally issued for a period of six months from the day you are entering Canada. However, in case a shorter span of visitor visa is authorised then it will be indicated on your passport. In case, you want to extend your stay in Canada then you will have to apply for a visa extension 30 days prior to the end of your visa.
Types of visitor visas:
The visitor visas can be classified into two different types:

  • A single entry visa allows a visitor to enter Canada only once.
  • A multiple entry visa allows you to enter Canada as many times as you want before the visa expires.
Who needs a visitor visa?
Anyone who is not a citizen, permanent resident or exempted from requiring a visa to enter Canada will need to apply for a visitor visa.
Can you get an extension on your visitor visa?
Whether you have a single entry or multiple entry visitor visas, you will be able to stay for a period of six months in Canada at a time. To extend your stay, you need to apply for an extension 30 days before the date of expiry of your visa. However, if your visa expires when your extension application is still in process, you will be allowed to stay in Canada under the rule of Implied Status.
What requirements do you need to fulfil to receive a Canadian visitor visa?
To apply for a visitor visa, you must possess an authorized passport from your home country for crossing into Canadian territory. For small children, an original birth certificate is mandatory. Also, your passport must have blank pages where the immigration and other government officials can stamp as you enter Canada.
Although there are few countries whose citizens do not require any visitor visa to enter Canada, instead they will need to produce eTA or electronic travel authorization. However, anyone entering Canada must visit the Canadian embassy in their country of origin for verification of their documents and biometric screening.
What Are the Requirements to Get a Visitor Visa to Canada?
Every traveller needs to be in possession of a valid passport (or unabridged birth certificate in the case of children) in order to travel across the Canadian border, no matter their country of origin. The passport needs to have an open page for immigration and passport control officers to stamp as you move across the borders or airport control points
A lot of countries are exempt from applying for a Canada Visitor Visa and will only need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) but those that are not exempt need to appear in person at the Canadian embassy in their country of residence. A biometric screening is done by an embassy consultant and the travel documents that you must collect and present are checked for approval (generally over a 4-6 week waiting period however this depends on your nationality and where you are applying from).
