Provincial Nomination

What is a Provincial Nominee Program? ( Canada PNP )

The Provincial Nominee Programs are offered by the provinces in Canada that certainly have a business immigration category. It allows the eligible candidates from foreign nations to receive a nomination from the specific province whose PNP they have applied for provided they meet the investment, net worth, and other basic eligibility requirements. In total, Canada has 10 provinces and candidates can apply for any Provincial Nominee Program. Each province offers different Canada PNP options for foreign individuals looking to migrate and work in Canada. In addition to this, there are 3 territories. These are namely the Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Each has its specific nominee programs as well.

But Quebec and Nunavut do not offer any provincial nomination of any kind and do not have their own Provincial Nominee Program. Candidates can indeed choose from:

  • BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
  • Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
  • AlberManitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)
  • New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)
  • Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)
  • Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP)

Eligibility Criteria for PNP Program

Based on the labour market needs, each province has its own eligibility criteria. As a matter of fact, a nomination from a Canada-based employer is mandatory with the application for most PNP programmes. A letter of support will be issued on the successful application of Canadian provincial nomination. A letter of support is required for a temporary work permit.

There are various eligibility criteria for employers looking to hire skilled foreign workers in a province.

Through the different pilot programs offered under the Canadian Provincial Nominee Program, the country fills the labour market shortages. Semi and low skilled workers can migrate and even work in a province based on the Labour Market needs.

Candidates will have to pass the criminal and medical requirements in order to qualify. Upon successful application, they can further apply for PR status.

Certainly, there are language score requirements for each specific province. Therefore, candidates who are applying for PNP and Express Entry must pass the requirements of both programs.

Provincial Business Programs are also available for talented international entrepreneurs and investors. These streamlined programs are also part of the PNP and open up Permanent Residency opportunities for international graduates.

IRCC even offers Express Entry linked PNP streams for candidates who don’t score enough CSR points.

Processing Time

The overall processing time for a successful Provincial Nominee application and getting permanent residence in Canada is between 15-19 months. But the processing time can be as low as 6 months if applied online directly through Express Entry.
